As Executive Pastor, I am responsible for operations at St. Andrew UMC. My duties include staff supervision, budgeting, administration, and strategizing with the Senior Pastor and other members of staff to move the church forward. I manage contracts for IT support and equipment, as well as administer efforts in areas such as building security and personnel policies.

My responsibilities at DenUM included cultivating relationships with individual, corporate, and church supporters, as well as representing DenUM to community groups and visitors. Over the course of 17 years, I served as senior or sole pastor in churches ranging in size from 125 to 485 members, supervising staffs of up to 8 persons. While writing my doctoral dissertation, I served on a $1.3 million capital campaign seeking grant funding for renovations. Throughout my pastoral career, I managed budgets, worked on two other capital campaigns, raised operational funds, recruited volunteers, provided spiritual leadership, represented the churches in the community, and served in a variety of positions beyond the local church. In those capacities, I often spoke to community audiences on topics such as domestic violence, affordable housing, and methamphetamine prevention.

It also provides investment vehicles for individual church members. I chaired its Board of Directors and its strategic planning committee, and led the agency through the process of completing a five-year strategic plan. In addition, I helped to evaluate employees, including the Executive Director.
Chaplain, Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team

As the organization’s first chaplain, I helped create the chaplain position for DVERT (the Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team), an innovative multiagency and multidisciplinary group assigned the most dangerous and high-profile cases of domestic violence in El Paso and Teller Counties. My role was to network with the local faith community to solicit funds and volunteers; to represent DVERT’s work to the public; to counsel and support staff members; and to counsel and support our clients.

The El Paso County Domestic Violence Critical Incident Review Team was an interagency group charged by the County Commission to review Domestic Violence-related deaths and attempted murders and to assess the systemic response to those events. The Steering Committee helped
to set policies and procedures and review the group’s operations. The secondary victim interview team interviewed friends and family of victims to glean more detailed information concerning the cases than might otherwise be available, with the goal of using that information to assess the need for possible systemic reforms.
